The logistics industry is undergoing a transformation - from sustainability and technology to process resilience and human resource management. CEVA Logistics is part of this change, fully engaged in the evolution. Progress requires accountability and the actions taken require measurability. CEVA has just summarised its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities for 2023, sharing its goals and annual progress.

CEVA Logistics' mission is to connect people, products and suppliers around the world and the company is committed to pursuing this mission in an ethical and sustainable manner. CEVA, as part of the CMA CGM Group, provides details of these activities in the Group's annual CSR report. CEVA has just summarised its progress in this area, providing customers, suppliers and partners with relevant, up-to-date information.

"The world around us is changing and we are adapting to these changes. Together, we should ensure that the transformation of our industry translates into a more sustainable operating model. We must look for 'better ways' to transport goods globally," says Mathieu Friedberg, CEO, CEVA Logistics.

"CEVA's decarbonisation initiatives are linked to our ability to innovate and collaborate. In the short term, we are reducing the carbon footprint of our warehouses (34 per cent thanks to low-carbon electricity), investing in low-carbon vehicles (tripling by 2023), and, in collaboration with our carriers, seeking more sustainable solutions that we implement for our customers. The experience of the CEVA team gives me confidence that we will be successful."

CSR activities based on three pillars.

CEVA's CSR activities reflect the Group-wide agenda, basing its commitments on three main pillars: Acting for Planet, Acting for People and Acting for Fair Trade.

Acting for Planet includes reducing carbon emissions and CEVA's commitments in this area are in line with those of the CMA CGM Group - achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2050. CEVA's carbon footprint in 2023 was 6.0 million tCO2e, a reduction of 200,000 tonnes compared to 2022. The report also details the decarbonisation levers CEVA will use in the coming years to achieve the zero CO2 target, as well as the company's progress in each service area.

Acting for People describes CEVA's activity in the area of employer branding and employment, with the aim of becoming an employer of choice. An employer that commits to monitoring the areas of employee health and safety, all employee benefits, and employee engagement and career development. As a leading global logistics player, CEVA is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion at every level and the report includes information on support programmes and other initiatives to promote even greater diversity.

Finally, the third pillar Acting for Fair Trade provides information on CEVA's business activities. The aim is to monitor and ensure that everything CEVA does is done ethically. CEVA employees follow the One CEVA Code, which provides clear guidelines on expectations in this area and company regulations. As a global operator, CEVA works with a number of subcontractors, informing them of its Sustainable Purchasing Charter, thus promoting responsible development throughout the supply chain.

As a 3PL with a strong commitment to sustainable logistics solutions, CEVA also uses its global scale to help others introduce their customers to low-carbon solutions and encourage them to move towards more sustainable supply chains.

"Our CSR report provides detailed information on our progress in sustainability as a trusted partner of our customers," - says Benoit Tinetti, global CSR and sustainability leader, CEVA Logistics. "We value long-standing partnerships and are convinced that this level of transparency supports mutual accountability for improving the global supply chain. We are proud of our achievements to date and will continue to offer solutions that benefit our customers, communities and the planet."

As part of its efforts to reduce CO2 emissions in its own fleets, CEVA is increasing the number of alternative fuel vehicles - with a target of having 1,450 electric vehicles by 2025. CEVA has also made a commitment to use only low-carbon electricity in its warehouses by 2025, and efforts around energy efficiency, recycling, reusable packaging and reducing waste and water consumption will further reduce the impact of CEVA's operations.
CEVA Logistics has also made great progress in engaging and developing the skills of its global teams (more than 110,000 employees worldwide), with a focus on creating value for customers, supporting local communities, including through volunteer actions, and conducting business ethically and with respect for the environment. And looking after employee safety is a priority at CEVA, which operates to QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety & Environment) standards in this field.

CEVA offers a wide range of solutions which, while increasing visibility, ensure effective reporting of CO2 emissions. It also invests in advanced technologies related to data processing and artificial intelligence, which increases the efficiency of operations (i.e. route optimisation solutions aimed at reducing CO2 emissions).
