The Romanian municipality of Constanta, in the southeast of the country, signed a contract worth over RON 581.3 million (EUR 116.9 million) with local energy equipment company Elsaco Electronic for the design and construction of a 97 MW thermal power plant (TPP).

The project entails the construction of a high-efficiency cogeneration unit for thermal and electrical energy production, initially utilising natural gas with the potential for future integration of hydrogen produced from renewable sources, the Constanta city hall said in a social media post.

Elsaco Electronic should build the TPP by December 2025. The project is funded under the country's National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
